Stockton U15’s Avenge Cup Defeat
Stockton U15 team were able to avenge their only defeat of the season (so far) when they overcame a powerful Richmond side to go three points clear at the top of the NYACC U15 North League table.
Batting first Stockton opened brightly with Tom Coulthard hitting a brisk 21 runs – including one massive six – before being uncharacteristically run out. When Joe Hewison and Robbie Thwaites quickly followed without troubling the scorers the omens looked far from good.
With James Kendall also back in the pavilion, Dan Barton came in to score a Stockton career best innings of 36, ably supported by Matty Everson (23) and Michael Bond (15).
When Dan was bowled by the last ball of the innings, Stockton had scored a respectable and, more importantly, defendable total of 126 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Always chasing the game, Richmond lost wickets at regular intervals – including two seemingly unnecessary run outs – and with every Stockton bowler enjoying success with the ball, Richmond were all out for 81, albeit playing with only ten batsmen.
The real test will come next week when Stockton travel to Darlington for what at this stage of the season promises to be an entertaining (we hope) and potentially title deciding top of the table clash!
Stockton 126-6 (D Barton 36, T Coulthard 21, M Everson 23 D. Walker 2-23)
(Richmondshire 81 (S Male 29, R Carr 17, M Everson 2-13)
Stockton won by 45 runs
15’S PROGRESS TO THE SEMIS OF CHESTER CUP
Reigning champions Stockton travelled to Seaton Carew for the final round of this years Chester Cup competition and found themselves in the unenviable position of having to win to secure a semi-final birth, this being in no small part thanks to Richmond whose earlier conceded game handed Seaton six valuable points.
Stockton lost the toss (again) and Seaton, choosing to bat first, scored 113-2 from their allotted 20 overs with notable performances from D. Braithwaite and J. Stonehouse. Indeed such was the batsmen’s early promise that a score of 150 seemed likely. However Stockton stuck to their task and accurate late order bowling, together with an excellent run out by Tom Coulthard, limited their score to a more than realistically achievable target.
As the gale force wind increased (seemingly a Seaton Carew speciality) and the umpire having to contend with the covers taking on a life of their own and entering the field of play without permission, Tom Coulthard and James Kendall quickly established a firm foundation from which to push on. Despite a middle order “wobble” Stockton held their nerve and triumphed with some seven balls to spare.
Seaton Carew 113-2 (D Braithwaite 50 rtd, J Stonehouse 28, J Montgomery 22,
J Kendall 1-20)
Stockton 117-5 (T Coulthard 53 rtd, J Kendall 23, R Wilkinson 2-4)
Stockton won by 5 wickets

TUESDAY 29TH JUNE
FIFTEENS OVERHAUL BLACKHALL
Still smarting from their last ball defeat at the hands of Richmond, Stockton U15s travelled to Blackhall on a balmy summers evening to play their re-arranged cup tie – the original having been abandoned due to a somewhat rare occurrence in these parts – rain!
Unlike the first game where Stockton found themselves on 112-1 after 12 overs, this was a much more evenly matched affair. Batting first Stockton scored 114 for the loss of six wickets with Tom Coulthard and Danny Barton contributing 51 between them. In reply Blackhall, ably supported and encouraged by their coach before what seemed to be the delivery of every other ball, could only muster 89-6, leaving them trailing by 25 runs.
Blackhall 89-6 (R. Hawkes 26, J. Merrit 29, D. Barton 2-11)
Stockton 114-6 (T. Coulthard 27, D. Barton 24, R. Thwaites 17, Nesbitt 3-10)
Stockton won by 25 runs.
SUNDAY 27TH JUNE
STOCKTON COME UP SHORT IN THRILLING FINISH
Having travelled to Richmond’s Hurgill road ground in good spirit it is fair to say that Stockton U15’s faced their first real test of the season and, despite best efforts, found themselves coming up short in what was, from a neutrals point of view, a thrilling finish.
Batting first Richmond scored 153 for 5, albeit with the help of some uncharacteristically poor fielding. In reply Stockton started brightly but lost Tom Coulthard for 5 in the first over. Some excellent strokes led to James Kendall retiring on 50 and through a process of skill, determination and at times good luck, Stockton were able to maintain the required run rate, much to the consternation of some of the home team players!
In what seemed an unlikely victory, Stockton required 6 off the last ball to win the match but all good things come to an end and Michael Bond was clean bowled in an heroic attempt to clear the boundary.
Richmond 153-5 (R Carr 53 rtd, S Maze 33, J Thompson 33, T Coulthard 3-30)
Stockton 148-7 (J Kendall 50 rtd, R Thwaites 28, R. Carr 3-31)
Stockton lost by 5 runs
TOM AT THE DOUBLE!
Tom Coulhard continued his impressive run of form by putting local rivals Norton to the sword for the second time in three weeks.
Batting first Norton amassed 67for five in their twenty overs, notable performances coming from V. Vaghela and B. Mullen who both hit 17 runs respectively and M. Craggs who contributed one wicket for eight runs.
Chasing a modest total of 67 to win Stockton wrapped the game up in 38 deliveries.
Norton 67 for 1 (V Vaghela 17, B Mullen 17, D. Barton 2 – 8)
Stockton 70 for 1 (T Coulthard 51 rtd)
Stockton won by nine wickets
FIFTEENS CRUISE TO WIN OVER LOCAL RIVALS
ON A cold and blustery morning at Norton's Station Road ground Stockton emerged victorious in what resulted in being a very one sided game.
Batting first Norton scored 70 all out – albeit with only nine players – with the pick of the batsmen being Paul Ruddell with 26 runs. Stockton's James Deverall making short work of their late order, taking three wickets in four balls.
Not to be outdone Tom Coultard hit a sure fire 53 runs, hitting three balls out of the ground in the process and doing serious damage to roof tiles and patios of surrounding properties.
A comfortable victory but still room for improvement.
Norton 70 for 8 (P Ruddell 26, J Deverall 4-11)
Stockton 71 (T Coultard 53 rtd)
Stockton won
