CUP FINAL ANGUISH FOR UNDER SEVENTEENS

17s final

DESPITE the high expectations of a good crowd at Grangefield, Wednesday's Under 17 cup final turned out to be a totally one sided affair.

Having won the toss Stockton elected to take the field and were soon under the cosh as Stokesley's openers Goldsmith and Weighall set about establishing a form grip on the game. Both youngsters were firmly in control and helped by some indifferent Stockton bowling led their side to an above par score of 162 in their alloted 20 overs. Whilst Johnny Weighall looked more than useful on his way to 31 it was Will Goldsmith who did the most damage eventually being run out for 99 off the penultimate ball of the innings.

From a Stockton viewpoint their innings got off the worst possible start when skipper Andy Parr edged a delivery from Sam Knock to wicket keeper Robinson after he had made only one. The home sides' hopes now rested firmly on Wilf Reeve and Dave Seymour not only to produce runs but to do so quickly. Reeve, however was caught at cover and Seymour visibly tired having played for Cleveland Schools during the day fell for 8. Deighton and Din soon departed and by the time Tom Coulthard was joined by James Deverall all that was left for Stockton to play for was pride. When the final curtain fell Stockton were 74 runs short with Deverall remaining unbeaten.

Stokesley 162-2 (W Goldsmith 99, J Weighall 31)
Stockton 88-8
(S Knock 4-15)
Stokesley won by 74 runs

SEVEN TEENS FAIL TO STOP RICHMONDSHIRE

Unfortunately, however their euphoria was short lived as the paucity of fielders weighed heavily against them and the home side cruised home with ten wickets to spare.

Richmondshire 143-0 (T Hodgson 67*, S Wood 58*)
Richmondshire won by 10 wickets

MONDAY 22ND JUNE

SUPER SEVENTEENS THROUGH TO FINAL

ON a slow soft wicket Stockton won the toss and elected to bowl first. Guisborough’s opening pair Lines (36) and Coates (66) got them off to a good start by adding 77 for the first wicket. On the fielding side Phil Appleton played a good supporting role but it was skipper Andrew Parr who was undoubtedly the pick of an inconsistent attack claiming two for 15 in his 4 overs. Guisborough closed on 130 fro five in their 20 overs.

The result never appeared in doubt as Parr and Reeve batted with maturity and flair to overhaul their opponents’ score without losing a wicket, with Parr ending unbeaten on 66 and his partner on 54.
